Naim Josefi
The Mine Lady in Steel Creations at Långban Modern
For this exhibition, Naim Josefi has been inspired by the mythical Mine Lady, which he has dressed in six different creations.
The Mine Lady, or Mountain Hulder, is a mythological creature that ruled the mine and the mountain. By staying in the good graces of the Mine Lady, order and routines in the mine were maintained. If the miners treated the Mine Lady with respect, she bestowed happiness upon them, but her fickle and moody character could also lead them into ruin. The Mine Lady was drawn to the solitude and quiet of the endless gloom at the mountain’s root. She was often seen as an elegant lady wearing a grey dress. She guarded the mine and she demanded respect, otherwise she might not be so benevolent. The miners knocked politely three times on the mine wall before they descended to their workplace. In return, the miners asked for a safe workplace free from cave-ins and mine gas.
With this exhibition, through Naim Josefi’s steel creations, we want to give you an inspiring experience and show the true potential of the steel. Naim has previously created steel outfits used at the Oscars, Melodifestivalen and the Nobel Banquet. His breakthrough came when he won the first edition of Swedish Project Runway. Since then, he has won several awards and earned the attention of the media.
